 It’s not all that often you see a company issue a press release for a firmware update (that is, except for our lovely iFriends in Cupertino - Apple invites the internet over for milk and cookies every time they think about releasing an update), but after all the bad press the 5800 got at launch, Nokia’s probably tryin’ its best to get the handset back in a positive light.
No matter the reason, the free 5800 XpressMusic update is here, and looks like music to our eyes. According to the Finnish mobile juggernaut, the update offers improved performance and new “functionalities” including:

Research In Motion's BlackBerry Media Sync 2.0 has been updated to support Windows Media Player, allowing users to sync their BlackBerry devices with music collections managed by Microsoft's multimedia software.

T-Mobile’s long awaited USB dongle is available starting today and we’ve had the pleasure of tinkering with the webConnect USB laptop stick for the day. T-Mobile hooked up with Huawei for their first foray into the mobile arena with a slim and stylish device. Considering how young and fertile T-Mobile’s 3G network, I was surprised by the speeds this little dongle could muster up. I’m currently in Redwood City, CA, and my parent’s house is a bit of a dead zone, but I managed to get 337kbps up and 841kbps down. We’ll see how she does when I get back to NYC where I’m sure the 3G network is a bit more robust. Sadly, it only works with Windows, but T-Mobile promises Mac OS X support this summer.

Barnes & Noble has launched an e-reader for BlackBerry smartphones, according to the Wall Street Journal. Users can navigate their BlackBerry browser to download the e-book reader from the retailer's Fictionwise e-book retail unit. The application givers users access to free books and more than 60,000 titles for sale at the online store.
The e-reader is currently available for the Curve, Storm, Pearl, Bold, and several other BlackBerry models. It is available for free at the Fictionwise website.
In related news, mocoNews is reporting that Apple is being sued by a company for its application of the iPhone and iPod Touch as potential e-book readers. The Swiss company claims that Apple is violating a patent for a light-weight and touch-screen device with "dimensions such that [...] approximately one page of a book can be illustrated at normal size, this display being integrated in a flat, frame-like housing." |

T-Mobile BlackBerry Pearl 8120 users can now upgrade their devices to BlackBerry OS v4.5. The update adds web, e-mail, and calendar features, improves video and audio streaming, and cleans-up data performance.
The browser home page and general downloading experience have both been improved, and users will notice better Music and Video Streaming support. Users can now view HTML-based e-mails and will have the ability to download and edit document attachments. Also, the BlackBerry calendar now allows for a free/busy timeslot search. Users can download the upgrade from T-Mobile's website. |
