As part of its previously announced plans to reduce costs, Nokia announced that it will cut 1,700 employees globally in its Devices and Markets units, as well as its Corporate Development Office and global support functions, according to a press release. The company says it plans to scale sales, marketing, and technology management and address activities that are no longer integral following the Symbian acquisition. Nokia will also streamline device research and development, and increase efficiency in support functions. Nokia says it will continue to seek savings in operational expenses across the company.
