Well, that’s a nice change of pace. We generally have to turn to UK handset retailers to spill the beans on new phones ahead of schedule; this time around, it’s Best Buy with the loose lips.
Early this morning, a listing for the thus-far-unannounced Samsung Instinct HD appeared on Best Buy’s online outlet. They weren’t nice enough to mention the price, but they do shed some light on the specs; it’s got a 5 MP camera for getting pictures and video onto your phone, and HD Video out for getting said pictures and video onto your TV. Throw in WiFi and Visual Voicemail, and you’ve got a pretty high-end feature phone - but we’re still waiting for its big, bad, Droid-based brother.

There it is, folks, in what appears to be final form: the Nokia N900, otherwise known as the Rover or RX-51 - and boy, does it look gorgeous. We broke the news of the N900 back in May, and the final hardware appears to match inch-for-inch with the concept image we drew up at the time.
Mobile experts are trickling out screenshots of the N900’s operating system, Maemo 5, for the past day or so, and now we know where he might have gotten them: right off his own N900. We’ve got no idea how he pulled it off (though such feats aren’t uncommon for this guy), but Eldar has somehow managed to wrangle up an N900 of his very own, a full two weeks before the handset is expected to be announced at Nokia World. According to his twitter stream, we can expect a full preview sometime before the day is out. |

If you’re a longtime reader of MobileCrunch, you probably know that we’ve got a bit of a love/hate relationship with pink phones. We hate them because they’re generally gimmicky garbage, often just a means of selling a few more feature phones to tweens. We love them because, well, they’re pink phones.
We’ve been seeing the HTC Hero pop up in pink since as early as the May promo video, though the hues got toned back a whole lot by the time the actual pink edition product shots popped up. The pink variant went on sale exclusively at mobiles.co.uk at the end of July, and it seems the first shipments are starting to arrive.

I do believe this is the most basic phone we’ve ever written about on MobileCrunch. Really. The press release is all of five sentences, and the specs sheet rattles off “VGA Camera”, “Messaging”, “Stereo Bluetooth”, and then realizes its own futilility and gives up.
Have you ever noticed that Samsung can sell the same phone for 8 years? Sure, they strip things down and repackage it all in a fresh body - but really, it’s the same phone. Hell, even the name “Glint” is recycled; Samsung used it for the Sprint m610 flipphone way back in 2006.
With a 2 megapixel camera and a QVGA display, the Glint from 2006 actually had better specs than the Glint from 2009. However, Glint 1 cost $180 bucks - Alltel doesnt even both mentioning a price, here. I’m pretty sure they’ll give you a box of them for free if you just smile at them. |
